14-year-old wrecks car into Sunoco
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 14-year-old who crashed his parents’ SUV into a Sunoco Thursday was taking the car to get Skittles.
Cobb County firefighters and a building inspector were sent to a Sunoco on Dallas Highway just west of Marietta Thursday to evaluate the structural stability of the building the boy hit.
The boy told police he took the car to drive to the Sunoco for Skittles. His Attention Deficit Disorder could have played a role in his decision to take the car, said Cobb County Police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce.
The boy lost control of the car and it crashed into the Sunoco, penetrating the building and intruding into it “quite a bit,” Pierce said.
Two people were inside the building when the car crashed into it, and both were evacuated after, said Cobb County Fire spokeswoman Denell Boyd. No one was hurt.
The boy’s father came to the scene after the accident, Pierce said.
The vehicle has “fairly significant damage,” Pierce said, particularly to the front end. Damage to the building was also fairly significant.
The boy faces juvenile charges of theft by conversion and driving without a license, Pierce said. Additional charges may follow later.
