Tires stored on trailer ignite in Jonesboro
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Clayton County firefighters are responding to a call of a fire on a tractor trailer loaded with tires in Jonesboro. The fire is on a trailer parked next to Tara Wreckers, in the area of Turner Road and Lake Jodeco Road.
The fire is contained to the trailer and should not pose a treat to the nearby area, said Clayton Fire Batallion Chief Landry Merkison. He said it would be hard to estimate how long it will take to extinguish the fire.
"Tire fires can be very stubborn," Merkison said. "It depends on how deep it is and how many tires are in the trailer."
The call was received at 6:58 p.m.
By 10:45 p.m., Merkison said he had heard no new information that the fire had spread, but couldn't confirm that the fire had been extinguished.
