Still no weapon found at North Clayton High School
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Police used hand-held metal detectors on North Clayton High School students to search for a suspected gun on campus Thursday afternoon. But no weapon was found.
Officers escorted students, class by class, to buses and the parking lot as school dismissed at 3:20 p.m., according to Charles White, spokesman for Clayton schools.
The school was on lockdown beginning shortly before 1 p.m. as police searched backpacks and lockers, White said. The lockdown continued as students were being dismissed.
A student apparently saw a student with a gun, but waited an hour to report it to school personnel, said Sgt. Kevin Hughes with Clayton police.
A female student told a school official at 12:30 p.m. she had seen a gun, White said.
Officers searched the campus, but no weapon was ever found.
