One injured in crash between two cops
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Detectives continue to investigate a crash last week between two Clayton County police officers.
The crash sent one of the officers to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries to his leg and foot, according to a police report. Officer Thrift was flown to the hospital Thursday.
Police declined to release the officers' first names, both of which were redacted from the report that was released on Monday.
According to the report, Officer Sawyer was driving south on Tara Boulevard and attempted to make a U-turn at the intersection of Cardinal Road near Jonesboro.
As Sawyer was turning on to Tara, Officer Thrift’s Honda motorcycle struck her rear bumper, the report states.
Thrift said Sawyer pulled in front of him and he tried to change lanes, but he lost control of his motorcycle, according to the report.
Thrift was ejected from his motorcycle.
The report did not indicate if any charges have been filed. Police spokesman Officer Kevin Hughes said he did not have any additional information, including if Thrift had returned to work.
Georgia law requires full names to be released to the public. Hughes referred questions about the police report to his superior, Lt. Rebecca Brown. Calls and emails to Lt. Brown by ajc.com were not returned.
