Jail tip nets most wanted suspect
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
One of Clayton County’s most wanted is in jail after almost two years on the run.
On Tuesday, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dayne Orlando Brown, who was wanted for an aggravated assault in 2007.
A resident called deputies Tuesday morning after seeing Brown’s photograph on the county’s most wanted list hanging in the jail lobby, Sheriff Kem Kimbrough said.
The sheriff’s fugitive squad arrested Brown, 25, at his home on Botany Drive in Morrow, sheriff’s spokeswoman Sgt. Sonja Sanchez said.
Brown is being held at the Clayton jail on two counts of aggravated assault and one count of terroristic threats.
According to the warrant, Brown threatened two people with a knife on Oct. 4, 2007 on Forest Avenue in Forest Park. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon.
Brown is the second arrest from the most wanted list in the past week.
Last week, deputies arrested 24-year-old Demontra Tyrell Williams, who was wanted for shooting a man in Riverdale and then leading police on a high-speed chase, Kimbrough said.
The sheriff’s fugitive squad goes through the outstanding warrants and then places the most violent offenders on the most wanted list, Kimbrough said.
“It’s usually somebody we’ve been looking for awhile or has extremely high and aggravated charges,” the sheriff said. “This man [Brown] showed he is not afraid to use a weapon.”
Kimbrough said his deputies have been getting more tips in the past few weeks since the department began posting outstanding warrants online.
“I think the citizens of Clayton are trying to take back the county and working with us,” he said. “The citizens are saying we’re tired and we’re not going to take this any more.”
Sixteen suspects remain on the most wanted list, including three murder suspects, one rape suspect and four aggravated assault suspects. The list also includes a man wanted for aggravated child molestation, another wanted for aggravated stalking, a suspected cocaine trafficker and five men who police say violated the sex offender registry.
