Clayton County voted overwhelmingly to continue a 1-percent sales tax for schools.

In a special election, 74.8 percent of those who went to the polls Tuesday voted in favor of the the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, which the county uses for school construction projects.

The SPLOST was scheduled to expire on Dec. 31.

About 2,500 voters were in favor of the measure, versus more than 850 voters who were against it.
