The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Clayton County mother who reported that her young daughter had been abducted Wednesday, prompting authorities to issue a "Levi's Call" alert, made up the story, according to police.

Clayton County police Lt. Rebecca Brown said Thursday that Cara Ann Williams has been arrested and charged with false report of a crime and giving false statements.

The Levi's Call, Georgia's version of the Amber Alert, was issued after Williams told police that her 1-year-old daughter had been abducted from Jonesboro around daybreak. The alert was lifted later Wednesday morning after the toddler was found safe.

According to a police incident report, Williams told police that her ex-boyfriend had abducted the child.

Police later learned that the ex-boyfriend had been granted custody of the toddler in September, and he and the child have been living in Maryland for the past two months.

Williams is being held in the Clayton County Jail.
