Wrestling coach charged with sexual assault
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A Cherokee County wrestling coach and former state champion has been charged with sexual assault and a teacher who failed to report it was also arrested, police said Thursday.
Robert "Leslie" Morrow, 28, of Canton, is accused of assaulting a 16-year-old girl in his vehicle in December, according to Brittany Duncan, spokeswoman for Woodstock police. Morrow, a paraprofessional at River Ridge High School, was arrested Thursday after turning himself in to police.
The victim, who reported being assaulted July 26, said the incident happened in a business park within the River Park subdivision, located on Highway 5 near Sixes Road in Woodstock. The teen was not one of Morrow's students and no longer attends school in Cherokee County, Barbara Jacoby, school district spokeswoman, said in a statement.
After learning that Morrow was under criminal investigation, he was placed on administrative leave, Jacoby said.
Morrow confessed to the assault when interviewed by detectives, Duncan said.
The victim reported the incident to another school employee, Kristin May, in January, but May did not contact police, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
May, 32, of Canton, was arrested Thursday afternoon at the school district's print shop in Holly Spring and charged with failure to report, Baker said. May previously was an English teacher, but has been re-assigned to a job without student contact, the district said.
Morrow is the head wrestling coach at River Ridge High School, located on Arnold Mill Road. He was a Georgia state champion three times while wrestling at Sequoyah High School, becoming the first Cherokee County wrestler to win three titles in 2001.
Both Morrow and May were booked into the Cherokee County jail. Morrow’s bond has been set at $11,200; May’s $680.
