For the AJC
Oct. 15 was the last day for Cherokee County flood victims to receive help at the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Disaster Recovery Center in Woodstock. The FEMA center will close at 7 p.m.
More than 970 people registered for FEMA assistance at the Cherokee center. Services were offered for flood-related issues ranging from temporary housing to tax relief with the Internal Revenue Service. FEMA will keep open disaster centers in Austell, Douglasville and Lilburn. Flood victims also can receive help by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 or going online at www. DisasterAssistance.gov.
The 2009 flood was the most expensive natural disaster in Cherokee County history, with damages estimated at $52 million.
