Victim in fatal Canton wreck identified
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The man killed in Wednesday night's three-vehicle crash in Canton has been identified as 22-year-old Canton resident Alfredo Carreto.
The accident happened about 7:30 p.m., at the end of the long downhill exit ramp from I-575 to Ga. 140.
A tractor-trailer hauling sod ran a stop light at the intersection and hit a Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on Ga. 140, Canton police said. Those two vehicles then struck Carreto's Honda Prelude, which was westbound. Carreto was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Tahoe driver was taken to Kennestone Hospital in stable condition. The tractor-trailer driver, Mitchell Wilburn of Alabama, was not hurt.
Police continue to investigate why Wilburn ran the stop light, Canton Det. Candy Worthy said. No charges have been filed.
The exit ramp was closed from the time of the crash until 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
