State Senator Chip Rogers, R-Woodstock, received the 2010 Association County Commissioners of Georgia Legislative Service Award last Tuesday at a meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners for sponsoring and helping pass Senate Bill 346.

The bill made sweeping changes to property tax law, including changing the process of  assessments and appeals, notices, training, tax billing and digest submission.

The association made recommendations which Rogers adopted, including the creation of a regional board of equalization, property tax installment billings and the inclusion of professional appeal hearing officers. The legislation will help improve fairness and equity in the property tax assessment and appeals procedures, said Clint Mueller, the legislative director for the ACCG.
