Officials to hold 2 meetings on conservation plan

Federal wildlife officials plan to host two public meetings to discuss a plan to protect three fish species while also facilitating development in north Georgia.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has scheduled a meeting on the Etowah Aquatic Habitat Conservation Plan for Tuesday night in Cartersville and another for Aug. 11 in Canton.

The plan, drawn up by local governments in the affected areas, aims to aid development efforts while also protecting the federally endangered Etowah and amber darters and the threatened Cherokee darter.

The meetings are meant to provide information about the conservation plan and allow people to ask questions.

The plan is available for public comment until Aug. 31.
