Deputy's nose broken arresting assault suspect
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An Acworth man is facing a long list of charges after authorities said he sexually assaulted and tried kill the mother of his child, then punched a Cherokee County sheriff's deputy in the face, breaking the lawman's nose.
Deputies were sent to a home on Cheyenne Drive near Acworth early Thursday morning in reference to a burglary and assault in progress, Cherokee sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker said.
The suspect, Tibey Jeter, 29, fled before deputies arrived, but Cpl. Pete Turcotte located Jeter on Ga. 92 near Wade Green Road.
"Turcotte was placing Jeter in custody when Jeter began to resist arrest," Baker said. "Jeter struck Turcotte in the face and fled the location on foot. Another deputy spotted Jeter and took him into custody.
Baker said Turcotte was treated at Northside Cherokee Hospital for a broken nose.
The victim on Cheyenne Drive told deputies that she awoke to find Jeter sexually assaulting her, Baker said. She told investigators that Jeter "began to choke her and force his thumbs into her eyes" before running from the home, Baker said.
He said the victim sustained injuries to her neck and eyes. The woman and Jeter are acquaintances and have a child together, Baker said.
Jeter was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, felony obstruction, giving false information to law enforcement, aggravated assault, sexual battery, terroristic threats and burglary.
"An additional charge of criminal attempt to commit murder will be filed against Jeter later today," Baker said late Thursday morning. Jeter is being held without bond in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
