An inmate from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center in Canton was on life support Monday afternoon after allegedly trying to kill himself.

The inmate, James Silva, 43, of Woodstock was found hanging in his cell about 8 p.m. Saturday, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office reported Monday afternoon. Silva had been in jail since last June on charges including aggravated battery and family violence after a domestic dispute with his wife, the sheriff's office said in a press release.

Silva was rushed to Northside Cherokee Hospital and then to Atlanta Medical Center, where he remained Monday afternoon.
