Federal officials said the sentencing of four individuals on firearms trafficking charges will help keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
Jeffrey Martin Colon Moore, 26; Crystal Davis, 26; and Danny Bill Davis, 56, all of Canton, were sentenced Friday by United States District Judge Thomas W. Thrash for their roles in a firearms trafficking conspiracy, said United States Attorney Sally Quillian Yates in a press release. Also sentenced was Alexander Quinn, 36, of Oakland, Calif.
Yates said, “These straw purchasers who helped Moore, a convicted felon, purchase numerous firearms in violation of the law, endangered not only the people of Georgia, but also the people of California, where most of the guns were later shipped and found, some in the hands of criminals. ”
Moore was sentenced to eight years, one month in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Crystal Davis was sentenced 18 months of home confinement, to be followed by three years, six months of probation.
Quinn was sentenced to one year and one day in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Danny Bill Davis was sentenced to 18 months of home confinement, to be followed by three years, six months of probation.
All but Danny Bill Davis pleaded guilty to the charges.
Yates said Moore recruited his girlfriend, Crystal Davis, and her wheelchair-bound father, Danny Bill Davis, to buy at least 65 firearms from various merchant in Georgia. The weapons were shipped to California by next-day delivery service. A suspicious dealer reporter one of the transactions to federal authorities, who determined Moore was a convicted felon in California for taking a vehicle without the owner's consent.
The ATF then made an undercover sale of a firearm to Moore.
After Moore's arrest, ATF agents were able to determine weapons were being shipped to Quinn. Officials in California arrested four men there for unlawful receipt of firearms.
This case was investigated by Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistance in this case was provided by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California.
Assistant United States Attorneys Zahra S. Karinshak and Joseph Plummer prosecuted the case, with assistance from Assistant United States Attorney Derek Owens in the Northern District of California.
