A 12-year-old Cherokee County boy who brought a gun to school earlier this week now faces charges for allegedly pointing the weapon at someone and making a terroristic threat.

The Dean Rusk Middle School student was arrested Tuesday after a classmate reported seeing the gun, according to Mike McGowan, spokesman for Cherokee County Schools. An unloaded handgun and ammunition were found in the boy's locker, McGowan said.

Since then, other "brave students" have come forward with more information about the incident, Principal Adrian Thomason wrote in a letter sent to parents Thursday.

In addition to a felony gun possession charge, the boy now faces one charge each of terroristic threats and acts and pointing a gun at another person.

The boy, who has not been identified, could face expulsion for the incident, McGowan said earlier this week.
