Sandy Springs-based UPS announced it will buy two Costa Rican companies to bolster connections with the Central American country’s expanding economy.

The two companies — small package delivery company Union Pak de Costa Rica S.A. and brokerage company SEISA Brokerage — have about 100 employees and 60 employees, respectively. UPS has had a presence in Costa Rica since 1990 and already has relationships with the two companies as authorized service contractors.

A key aim of the deal is to put UPS in a better position to give Costa Rican shippers one source for multiple services, including small package delivery, freight forwarding and logistics.

The acquisitions are expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year, subject to closing conditions. UPS did not disclose the purchase price.
