“Advances in Stroke Care 2012: Unusual Causes and Innovative Treatment Approaches” will be presented by Gwinnett Medical Center from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the GHS Resource Center (665 Duluth Highway, Lawrenceville). The target audience of the annual stroke conference is nurses, allied health professionals, physicians, physician asisstants and nurse practitioners. To commemorate COPD month, Piedmont Hospital will host a pulmonary health symposium from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Richard H. Rich Auditorium. The event will focus on the latest information about managing COPD, pneumonia, sepsis and vaccinations. There will be breakout sessions about tracheostomy care, oxygen therapy (including using MDI and nebulizer therapy, nasal cannulas, oxymizers) and oxygen-carrying systems. Five nursing contact hours and 4.5 American Association for Respiratory Care CRCE credits have been applied for. The event is free. A boxed lunch will be provided. The Emory diabetes educator certificate course at Grady will be at the Emory Faculty Office Building (49 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive in Atlanta). This seminar is open to nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and others interested in the management and education of people with diabetes. Professionals preparing to take the certified diabetes educator exam should find the course helpful. Time is allocated for observations in the clinical setting with members of health care teams. Attendees must have a degree or diploma in a health profession. The course is also open to students preparing to take a licensure examination. The cost, which includes materials, is $375.
