A North Georgia manufacturer will add more than 150 jobs over the next three years to supply parts to a new Caterpillar plant near Athens.

Impulse Manufacturing, a steel fabricator, will hire the workers for its plant in Dawsonville, in Dawson County, according a Gainesville Times report.

Impulse told the publication it invested several million dollars in plant equipment last year and believes that is a major reason it was selected by Caterpillar after a national search for a supplier. Impulse expects more investments in its plant over the next 18 months.

Workers at the 850,000-square-foot Caterpillar facility in Bogart began arriving last month. They will build tractors and excavators. Once fully operational, the plant will employ 1,400.

Impulse’s hiring announcement was the latest good news for job growth in the region. Earlier this week, Gov. Nathan Deal announced Engineered Floors, accompany founded by former Shaw Industries chief Bob Shaw, it will open two carpet plants that will employ 2,400 people in northwest Georgia.

Deal said the company will invest $450 million in the two plants: A factory in Whitfield County will create 1,000 jobs and another in Murray County would create 1,400 jobs.
