“Advancing the Possibilities: Oncology Nurses – Champions of Excellence,” the fifth annual oncology nursing symposium, will be at Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort at Stone Mountain Park. This year’s symposium, presented by Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, will offer the opportunity to learn from nationally recognized oncology leaders, Dr. Mary M. Gullatte, president of the Oncology Nursing Society, and Dr. Otis W. Brawley, medical director of the American Cancer Society. The course offers 9.0 contact hours through Emory Healthcare. The Atlanta chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants will present a lunch-and-learn session from noon to 2 p.m. at WellStar Development Center (2000 South Park Place in Atlanta). There will be a presentation by Jennifer Solohub, a certified wound ostomy and continence clinician, educator and expert witness. The event will focus on hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, a critical topic in medical malpractice. Two CEUs are available. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for guests. Lunch is included. The Emory diabetes educator certificate course at Grady will be held at the Emory Faculty Office Building (49 Jesse Hill Jr. Drive in Atlanta). This seminar is open to nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, social workers and others interested in the management and education of people with diabetes. Professionals preparing to take the certified diabetes educator exam should find the course helpful. Attendees must have a degree or diploma in a health profession. The course is also open to students preparing to take a licensure examination. The cost, which includes materials, is $375.
