What makes a good leader? “Stephen Covey has a great formula: inspire trust, clarify purpose, align systems and unleash talent. And I also believe a leader should have a servant’s heart.”
What are you most proud of in your career? “Not one thing, but a life’s work that was about passion for creating an environment where both patients and stakeholders are empowered to be the best versions of themselves. I have been blessed to see the incredible impact this can have on people’s lives.”
Who has inspired or mentored you? “One of my mentors was my graduate school advisor, who taught me the value of being a lifelong learner and the importance of an inquisitive mind.”
What’s your favorite thing to do away from work? “Hang out at my cabin on the lake with a good book.”
Who’s your favorite fictional nurse? Why? “Carol Hathaway [played by Julianna Margulies] on the TV show 'ER,’ who played the nurse manager of the emergency department. She was smart, tough, compassionate and, above all, human.”
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure? “Ben and Jerry’s Cherry Garcia ice cream — with fudge sauce.”
Tell us something that nobody at work knows about you: “I used to be a rock climber and climbed Devil’s Tower in Wyoming.”
