Atlanta-based Cox Media Group is creating a network to provide news content to radio stations throughout Georgia, set to launch early next year. “We’re going to provide news and sports information and some regional weather information, plus some specialty shows,” said Ben Reed, CMG Atlanta vice president and general manager. He said CMG saw an opening after Clear Channel – a Texas-based media and entertainment company – announced it would close its Georgia News Network on Dec. 31. GNN feeds hourly news reports and other programming to about 120 radio stations statewide. Reed said the new Georgia News Service network doesn’t plan to hire new employees, but will use existing resources at CMG, which includes The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Channel 2 Action News and AM750 and 95.5 FM News/Talk WSB.
