The man believed to have robbed a Dollar General Store in Barrow County last week has been killed in a car accident, the Sheriff's Office said.

Durwin Anthony Schofield, 41, was killed in a crash on Highway 11 on Sunday. Authorities believe he robbed the Dollar General Store in Bethlehem last Wednesday.

In the robbery, a man intimidated the cashier into handing over an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber ran away on foot and escaped a search team that included a K-9 unit.

Investigators are working to confirm Schofield was the robber, the Sheriff's Office said.
