Are you looking for a job? The Atlanta Police Department may be looking for you.

The APD is holding a job fair beginning at 8 a.m. Monday on the 2nd floor of police headquarters, 226 Peachtree Street SW.

Police Chief George Turner went before the City Council last year to request more funding to get the police force to 2,000 officers from about 1,800 currently. The plan would add officers at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and help address violence against women and children.

The department has hired nearly 500 officers in the past two years, a department spokesman said.

The Atlanta Police Foundation also is trying to attract officers to the city through a program that provides a home either either rent-free or subsidized.

The non-profit supports the APD with hiring and retention programs. It recruits developers, landlords, churches and businesses to provide housing and funds for renovations and moving costs.

At the job fair Monday, the APD said it is looking for “dedicated, community-minded individuals.”

The application process, which includes interviews and testing, will take at least six hours, a spokesman said. Applicants must arrive dressed in business attire with a valid photo government-issued identification card. Anyone arriving after 8 a.m. will not be admitted.

More information is available at the APD’s hiring website.
