A toddler was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday after being burned in his family's southwest Atlanta apartment.

The incident happened shortly after 3 a.m. in the 1000 block of Westview Drive.

The three-year-old child was burned by hot water that was being poured into a bathtub, according to Atlanta police spokesman Eric Schwartz.

Schwartz said the boy's mother told police that there is no hot water in the apartment, so she boiled water for the child's bath.

A friend of the mother boiled more water to warm up the tub, but poured the boiling water directly on the child, according to police.

The boy, whose name has not been released, with taken to the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital.

No one hasĀ  been charged.
