The students were on Hemphill Avenue between 10th and 14th streets about 12:15 a.m. when they were robbed, according to a crime alert sent out by Georgia Tech police.
"The students stated that two males approached them on foot and pointed a handgun at them," the alert states. "The males demanded the students' belongings before fleeing the area in a black vehicle."
No one was injured during the robbery, which is being investigated by Atlanta police.
Atlanta police spokesman Otis Redmond said the students were robbed of their wallets and cell phones.
The robbers were described as black males, both about 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. The gunman was wearing baggy pants and a long, white t-shirt, while the other man had long dreadlocks and was wearing a black t-shirt and baggy shorts or pants.
The vehicle was described as a black passenger vehicle with round brake lights, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu.
The incident happened about a quarter-mile north of the Tech campus in an area where several students have been robbed in recent months.
