Georgia Tech’s Student Government Association is scheduled to host a crime prevention awareness program tonight to teach students how to protect themselves from crime on and off campus.

More than a dozen robberies have been reported in the area around campus since February.

The university’s police chief and representatives from the Atlanta Police Department are scheduled to attend, college spokesman Matt Nagel said.

Students who attend the meeting will receive free safety whistles, according to information on the college’s Web site. Alina Staskevicius, president of the college’s undergraduate student government, could not be reached for comment.

The event is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the student center ballroom on campus.
