Red Cross gears up to help flood victims
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Ruben Brown, a spokesman with the Metropolitan Atlanta Red Cross, said Monday afternoon that volunteers are arriving at its headquarters to help locate and coordinate the opening of emergency shelters.
“Up to this point, we have serviced 57 clients with food or shelter, and we anticipate that is going to increase dramatically,” he said.
The agency is getting early reports of localized flooding and is working with local emergency managers to find the best locations for shelters so that people do not have to travel far to get to one, he said.
He expects the shelters will be open tonight.

The Salvation Army in metro Atlanta mobilized three disaster units to provide food and water to those affected by the deluge and those such as firemen, who are responding to the problems.
In Toccoa, they are providing water to the areas hard hit by breaks in water mains caused by the flooding.
