Piedmont Park getting more cameras
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Six surveillance cameras will soon be placed in Piedmont Park.
The Atlanta City Council voted Monday in favor of allowing Councilwoman Anne Fauver to take about $49,000 from her council account to pay for three cameras. The Piedmont Driving Club would pay for the other three cameras.
Piedmont Park is one of Atlanta’s largest open spaces and home to many of the city’s biggest events. City leaders are concerned about security in it. In May, 43-year-old Patrick Boland was stabbed to death in the park.
Fauver represents the council district that includes the park. The city has a camera in the park near Piedmont Avenue and 12th Street.
The council also approved Councilwoman Cleta Winslow’s request to use $5,000 from her council account as part of a reward for the unsolved murder of Spelman College sophomore Jasmine Lynn. The student was shot by a stray bullet on Sept. 3 near the campus.
Crime Stoppers Atlanta will match the money from Winslow, council officials said.
