Peachtree northbound lanes reopen

An uprooted tree forced the rush-hour closure of all six lanes on Peachtree Road Tuesday. A stately hardwood tree weakened by recent rains fell at 2520 Peachtree Road between Lindbergh Drive and Lakeview Avenue.

The tree hit another tree and downed power lines.
All northbound lanes were reopened shortly before 8 p.m., according to the state DOT. Two southbound lanes remain blocked.
Emergency personnel with chain saws suspended from two large cranes settled in the middle of the street worked to clear the tree that fell around 2 p.m. There were about 30 workers on the scene at 5 p.m.
The tree was brought down a section at a time.
