One dead, one arrested after southwest Atlanta shooting

One man is dead and another in custody after an early morning shooting at an apartment complex in southwest Atlanta.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. at an apartment in the 300 block of Rawson Street.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told the AJC that the victim, 55-year-old Donald E. Dye, was shot in the stomach with a shotgun and died later at Grady Memorial Hospital.

A suspect, Rodney Lane, 43, who also lives in the complex, was detained at the scene. Lane was arrested after police found suspected cocaine in his apartment while searching for the murder weapon, according to Jones.
