No major weekend traffic delays expected

With a dry forecast, no major interstate construction and no large-scale events scheduled for downtown, travel through Atlanta should be a breeze this weekend.

The state Department of Transportation earlier this month decided to put off repaving on the Downtown Connector until next year as overnight temperatures began dropping below the threshold for putting down asphalt.

The greatest threat to a smooth drive will be overnight work on Roswell Road between I-285 and Peachtree Road and  on Peachtree Road south to Spring Street.

Crews will be working on various sections of Roswell and Peachtree roads through the end of November, according to DOT spokesman Paul Marshall.

There could be some congestion around Philips Arena as the Thrashers play Los Angeles at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Edmondton at 2 p.m. Sunday and the Hawks take on New Orleans at 7 p.m. Saturday.

After a rainy mid-week, forecasters are promising sunny skies throughout the weekend, with unseasonably warm afternoon temperatures.

The National Weather Service said highs should be in the mid-70s Saturday and Sunday, about 10 degrees above normal for mid-November. Overnight lows will be about normal, in the mid-40s.
