Hapeville Elementary School was on lockdown for more than an hour Monday after a man was shot at a nearby apartment complex, police said.

Hapeville police dispatchers said the shooting happened about 7:45 a.m. at an apartment on King Arnold Street in the south Fulton County town.

The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to the stomach and leg, dispatchers said. His condition was not immediately available.

Dispatchers said nearby Hapeville Elementary was put on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown was lifted about 9 a.m., school officials said.

The suspect remained at large at 10:15.
