The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Results from a U.S. Census Bureau survey confirmed what we know already: commuting in metro Atlanta stinks.

Drivers take an average 30 minutes – no, make that 30.80 minutes – to get to and from work, the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2006-2008 American Community survey said.

That gives the metro area – defined here as Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta – is the 4th worst commute out of 52 areas listed.

Metro Atlanta is among perennial cellar dwellers: Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Washington and New York.

Metro areas with a shorter commute include Rochester and Buffalo, N.Y., where drivers ferry to and from work in a little over 20 minutes, the American Community survey figures show.
