King siblings given less than a week to reconcile

The King family siblings have made a last-minute request for more time to settle their legal fight over their family corporation finances, which is scheduled for a public trial this month.
Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville agreed Thursday to postpone court hearings to settle legal issues before the family fight goes to trial Oct. 12. The hearings that were to begin Friday have been rescheduled for Wednesday, said Don Plummer, spokesman for the Superior Court in Fulton County.
Bernice and Martin Luther King III are suing Dexter King over his handling of King Inc., the company that controls the financial dealing involving the estate of their father, Martin Luther King Jr.
Dexter King has counter-sued his siblings and has sought a court order to force his sister to turn over their mother’s love letters to their father. Dexter King wanted the letters for a book about their deceased mother, Coretta Scott King, for which he had negotiated a $1.4 million contract.
