Killing is among string of crimes near Atlanta campuses

Thursday’s fatal shooting of a Spelman College student gunned down while walking along the western edge of Clark Atlanta University is the latest - and most serious - in a series of crimes over the past six months on or near Atlanta college campuses.

In July, Clark Atlanta police officers shot an armed man duing a confrontation about three blocks from the campus entrance.
Five Georgia Tech students were robbed at gunpoint during a two-week period last spring.
In May, Georgia Tech student Patrick Whaley was shot during a carjacking that happened on the same day that Georgia State University senior Carsten Singh was kidnapped near the Georgia Tech campus, robbed and shot in the leg. Both men survived.
Other crimes involving Georgia Tech students include:
June 21: Jim Kenney and Ryan Lorber were robbed at 1040 Hampton Street.
March 30: Mohammed Washim was robbed at gunpoint at 676 Mechanical Engineering Drive.
March 28: An unnamed female student was carjacked at gunpoint on Home Park Avenue near the Family Apartment/Graduate Living Center.
March 22: An unnamed sudent was robbed near 10th Street and Williams Street while walking back to campus from a MARTA station.
March 14: Reginald McKenzie Holmes was robbed at gunpoint and had his car stolen. He was at Centennial Olympic Place between North Avenue and Merritt Street.
Feb. 7: Joseph Gettmann was robbed at gunpoint on Holly Street between 10th Street and Home Park Avenue.
