IRS warns of scammers

The Internal Revenue Service warned  taxpayers Friday to guard against con artists advising them to file false claims for tax credits or rebates.

Warnings signs include; Unfamiliar tax services teaming up with local churches. Home-made flyers  implying credits or refunds are available without proof of eligibility. Offers of free money. Promises of refunds for "Low Income -- No Documents Tax Returns."

The IRS also warned it doesn't request personal or financial information by email, text or social media. It also warned of IRS impersonators claiming to need information to process a stimulus payment.
