The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The prospect of heavy rain Friday night and Saturday prompted the state Department of Transportation to postpone planned paving on the Downtown Connector for a second consecutive week.

All of metro Atlanta is under a flash flood watch through Saturday night, with forecasters predicting 1 to 3 inches of rain.

A DOT spokesman said Friday that resurfacing of the northbound lanes of the Connector, being done as part of the 14th Street Bridge project, is scheduled to resume on Oct. 2 -- weather permitting.

The construction-free weekend will be good news for Connector motorists headed to Georgia Tech for Saturday's football game against North Carolina, which kicks off at noon, or to the Georgia Dome for the 3:45 p.m. Atlanta Football Classic, which pits Florida A&M against Tennessee State University.
