Two former Atlanta Police Department officers have been indicted on charges of lying to FBI agents, according to documents filed in federal court.

Elton Augustin and Eric W. Jones were released on unsecured bonds following their first court appearance Thursday, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. The two officers are accused of giving false statements last August concerning their employment at a unnamed night club located near Lincoln and Pryor streets downtown.
The U.S. attorney is withholding details about the investigation, which cost both officers their jobs. Augustin was fired and Jones retired "in lieu of facing termination," APD spokesman Carlos Campos said in a statement.
"Chief [George] Turner has made officer integrity a priority of his administration," Campos said. "He expects all Atlanta police officers to abide by the laws they are sworn to uphold and enforce. Failing to do so will be dealt with accordingly."
Attorneys for the indicted officers did not reply to calls seeking comment.
