Emory University holds annual service day
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
More than 800 Emory University students, alumni and staff members signed up to volunteer throughout Atlanta Saturday as part of the college's annual Emory Cares International Service Day.
The volunteers are scheduled to cleanup Oakland Cemetery, work on trail maintenance in local parks, repair homes for senior citizens and other activities. Emory President James Wagner will sort medical supplies for delivery to developing nations at local nonprofit MedShare.
The program was started in 2003 by the Emory Alumni Association and students, staff and alumni from around the world participate. More than 1,200 volunteers are expected to lead service projects in 40 cities in nine countries.
