Unlike the big bang heard in west Georgia last week, there's no mystery about the cause of the loud noise heard in northwest Atlanta around lunchtime Wednesday.

But there is some question as to just what Atlanta police blew up.

The APD originally announced they had detonated several sticks of dynamite discovered during a routine Department of Transportation bridge inspection Wednesday morning at Hollywood and Hightower roads, APD spokesman Carlos Campos said.

But upon further review, bomb technicians say the package was not dynamite. The department's Homeland Security Unit is investigating to determine just what was inside, Campos said.

Friday around 9:45 p.m., a loud boom was heard in Carroll, Douglas and Haralson counties. Authorities still don't know what caused the loud sound, with many speculating it was a meteor.
