The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A College Park man was sentenced to eight years in prison today for filing false income tax returns.

Onessimus M. Govereh, 30, operated Icon Tax Service in Norcross for six weeks in early 2007. During that time, Govereh, originally  from Zimbabwe, filed 107 federal tax returns claiming substantial refunds, usually based on fabricated figures. Each of those returns were eventually rejected by the IRS for false claims.

Many of  Govereh's clients later learned that Govereh had taken out loans from banks in their names, and after the IRS rejected their returns, they found themselves liable for the entire amount of those loans. Govereh, arrested in Feb. 2007, was also ordered to pay back $62,000.
