A southwest Atlanta mother of two was shot and killed Friday night during an apparent domestic disturbance, police said.

Atlanta police arrested the woman's 43-year-old boyfriend, Louis Leverett, and charged him with murder.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m. at The Retreat at Marketplace apartements in the 3300 block of Fairburn Road.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Elizabeth Knight, 24.

"It appears the victim and suspect in this case were involved in a verbal altercation and at some point, the suspect produced a handgun, discharged the weapon at least two times, striking the victim in both the face and neck," homicide Lt. Keith Meadows told WSB-TV.

Meadows said Knight ran from the apartment after being shot, but collapsed in the driveway of the complex. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died.

Knight's two young sons were also in the apartment, but were not injured.

Leverett is being held in the Fulton County Jail.
