Atlanta woman, 68, fatally shot in head; husband in police custody
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A 68-year-old Atlanta woman is dead after her husband shot her in the head Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Wheelchair-bound Rochelle Phillips died on the scene, authorities said.
The man then shot Phillips' son in the back of the neck when the younger man confronted the man, Atlanta police homicide Det. Lt. Keith Meadows said.
"The stepson came home and saw the stepfather holding the handgun in his hand, and tried to wrestle the gun away," Meadows said.
The husband is in custody after he confessed to police what he did, Meadows said.
Phillips' son is in critical condition at a nearby hospital, police said.
Atlanta police were called around 4:30 p.m. to the 1300 block of Graymont Drive in southwest Atlanta, when shots were heard.
The investigation is ongoing, and WSB reported late Wednesday night that police were still questioning the 79-year-old husband.
