Atlanta officer hit by vehicle on interstate ramp
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An Atlanta police officer was injured early Thursday when he was struck by a vehicle while assisting another motorist on a westside interstate ramp.
The incident happened about 5:15 a.m. on the ramp from I-285 southbound to I-20 westbound.
Atlanta police spokesman Otis Redmond said the off-duty officer was putting gas into a disabled vehicle when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Timothy Couch.
The officer, whose name has not been released, sustained head and arm injuries, and was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Redmond said Couch, 22, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
