The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Atlanta Housing Authority executive director Renee Glover has won a national award for her efforts to transform its public housing.

The New York-based Manhattan Institute Center for Civic Innovation named Glover its 2009 Urban Innovator Award winner. Since 1994, Glover has demolished thousands of apartments for low-income tenants and converted them into mixed-income housing. The organization said Glover's efforts have reduced crime in those areas and raised property values.

The award ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 8 in New York City.
