Atlanta attorney expected to plead guilty in DUI case
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
An Atlanta attorney with a history of DUI convictions is expected to enter a guilty plea Monday afternoon in connection with a deadly crash that killed one person and injured two others.
Antonio Tolliver, 40, is charged with vehicular homicide, serious injury by vehicle, DUI and reckless driving.
The incident happened on Oct. 1, 2006 at Fort and Ellis streets in Atlanta. Tolliver is accused of running a red light and crashing into a cab.
Passenger Shannon Brown, 31, was killed instantly and her boyfriend Elbert Hall was permanently injured. Cab driver John McClendon suffered a broken femur, blunt force trauma to the chest and a traumatic brain injury, authorities said.
Tolliver escaped the crash with only a minor injury. His blood alcohol level was .207, more than double the legal limit, authorities said.
Tolliver’s plea is expected to be heard at 1 p.m. before Fulton County Superior Court Judge Constance Russell in Courtroom 5B. Following his plea Tolliver will be sentenced at the court’s discretion. The state is recommending a sentence of 20 years, according to the Fulton County District Attorney's office.
