APD deputy chief retires, takes Woodstock top cop job
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta police on Tuesday announced a number of promotions in the wake of the retirement of one of the department’s deputy police chiefs.
Deputy Chief Calvin Moss, head of the criminal investigations division, will retire Wednesday after 31 years with the department. He will take office March 5 as Woodstock’s police chief, Atlanta Police officials said.
"It was truly an honor to serve with the women and men of the Atlanta Police Department for this last 30-plus years," Moss told the AJC. "It was truly a privilege to serve on the leadership team of Chief (George) Turner. I look forward to working with the men and women of the Woodstock Police Department."
Stepping in for Moss will be Maj. Johnny Dalton, currently the commander of Zone 6 in Atlanta’s east side.
The resulting shifts bring three new names onto the command staff, as two other majors move and a number of senior police officers move up.
Maj. Keith Meadows moves from head of Major Crimes to command Zone 6, and information services commander Maj. Darryl Tolleson will take over Major Crimes.
Capt. Joseph Spillane, assistant commander of Zone 4, in southwest Atlanta, was promoted to major and will head the information services division. Capt. Vince Moore, also promoted to major, was named chief of staff.
And Lt. Cerelyn Davis, the interim commander of code enforcement, will take over that division permanently with a promotion to major.
