Anand picked as U.S. magistrate

Justin Anand, deputy chief of the U.S. Attorney's Office's economic crime division, has been picked to be a U.S. magistrate in Atlanta.

A prosecutor for the past eight years, Anand, 40, will succeed U.S. Magistrate Christopher Hagy when he retires June 1. "I'm thrilled," said Anand, a private attorney in New York before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office. Candidates for magistrate are screened by a panel of lawyers and non-lawyers who then forward a list of recommendations to the U.S. District Court bench, which makes the selection.
