AIDS Memorial Quilt on display at Atlanta area schools
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Anti-Defamation League has selected 11 schools in metro Atlanta to display 12×12 panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt to further its message of tolerance.
The panels, on display at most of the schools starting this week, are being made available to the league through a partnership with the NAMES Project Foundation, the group set up to manage the quilt. The quilt as a whole consists of more than 47,000 handmade panels created in memory of more than 91,000 individuals lost to HIV/AIDS.
The selected schools include Champion Theme Middle, Columbia Middle Redan Middle, Lakeside High, McNair High and Chamblee Charter High of DeKalb County; Atlanta's Martin Luther King Jr. Middle; Fulton County's Taylor Road Middle; and the private schools of Marist, Pace Academy and St. Martin's Episcopal School. They all participate in the league's anti-bullying No Place for Hate program, which trains staff and students about accepting differences and promoting diversity and inclusion. More than 150 schools in the metro area are in the program.
Tuesday commemorated World AIDS Day, which aims to raise awareness and money for HIV/AIDS projects across the world.
